Did you know you can register up to 6 Kindles on one Account?

Posted on January 22, 2008 by switch11

What exactly does this mean?

  1. You can register up to 6 Kindles to one Amazon account.
  2. The kindles all share the books and subscriptions on that account.
  3. Of course, purchasing is through that one account – so you either
    1. Have everyone ask that one person to buy books and pay them; OR
    2. Have everyoone’s credit card information stored with that one account and purchase your books from your credit card; OR
    3. Setup another way to share price of Books.
  4. Obviously, this works better with family and really close friends.
  5. Note that the same Amazon account is also used for other Amazon purchases – so be careful and think things through before sharing (even with your brother ;) )

That brings us to a separate question – How do I share a book I have?

A: You can’t really if it’s a book you bought from Amazon + the person’s Kindle is not registered to the same account as your Kindle. If, on the other hand, its a free book that you got off another site, then you can freely share. Or you can just point them to the website.

***** Correction***** Subscriptions to magazines and newspapers can NOT be shared! They are all associated with a specific Kindle. However, they can be transferred among the 6 registered Kindles on a single account. I have verified this with Kindle support.

      Earl,

I just bought a Kindle and love it. My husband wants one, too. I guess we’ll set up the account to download different subscriptions to the different Kindles. Does that sound like a workable strategy? What is the process for sharing books?

yes – you can setup different subscriptions to go to different kindles.
for sharing books – just register up to 6 kindles to one account and download the book to each.
you can do it at the ‘Manage Your Kindle’ section.
