Kindle and transporting and storing and carrying books

One obvious benefit of the Kindle that people don’t seem to be seeing is that it’s literally hundreds and hundreds of books in one Kindle. Here are some of the experiences I’ve had in just the last few weeks that highlight why Kindle is amazing (why having one would be a heaven sent for me)

  1. I was running out of bookshelves and storage in my room and had to periodically rearrange books as ‘books that go on the top shelf’, ‘books that go in the bookcase’, books that i store, etc.
  2. Moving from the US to the UK and leaving most of my books behind was second only to leaving my car.
  3. Travelling between various countries I was hard pressed to choose which books to take and which to keep and so forth – a few books add up to a few kg/pounds and with restrictive luggage/baggage rules, every little bit helps.
  4. While looking for a place and finally moving into a place it was a huge pain to have to get books in and out and keep them undamaged (only partially succeeded in that).
  5. There were multiple times when I had no idea of where i was and whre nearby conveniences were. Kindle wireless internet would have been a lifesaver.

And this is just a few – fundamentally, people don’t realize how difficult it gets to store books and carry them with you. Of course, I’d always want a living room and bedroom with bookcases and shelfs and my books. However I’d want to carry them around too and read them as and when I like and the Kindle really does allow that.

Finally, there are a lot of books that fall into the category of ‘nice to have access to’ although i wouldn’t neccessarily carry them everywhere or have them displayed. The Kindle is perfect for keeping those books (along with a copy of your favourites).
