Penguin sees eBook Sales Spike – CEO Attributes it to EBook Readers

The Key Highlight – Penguin has reported that e-book sales from the first four months of 2008 have surpassed the house’s total e-book sales for all of last year. Also, Penguin Group CEO David Shanks said he attributed the jump, in large part, to the growing popularity of e-book readers.

Well, that’s interesting. Also, Penguin are releasing enhanced eBook classics (Pride and Prejudice in the summer; 9 more classics through Fall) which will include add-ons like reviews (of the original publication), a filmography, etc.

The full article at Publishers Weekly.  Every week there are posts and opinions about

  1. The Amazon Kindle is going to fail because history shows us { betamax, divx, etc.} failed.
  2. Publishers fear the Kindle.
  3. I love books and hate eBookReaders.
  4. Reviews from people who’ve never owned a Kindle.

Well, the only two ‘facts’ I’ve seen are Penguin saying ebook sales jumped and that Amazon and Simon & Schuster have inked a deal to bring 5,000 new titles to the Kindle e-book reader this year.
