Kindle Coupon via Oprah – $50 off Kindle Coupon Code

March 10th update:  Used Kindle 1s are available for $200 or so. I do anticipate a Kindle 2 coupon soon since Kindle 2 has not sold out and in the current economy, price is a big factor.

October 29th update: Last few days – get $50 off the price of the Amazon Kindle with discount code: OPRAH WINFREY. This is only valid till Nov 1st, 2008. So Get the Kindle while the discount is still on.

OLD:

Sept 28th Update: I dropped the ball on this as it expired sometime in September. So this $100 off is no longer available.
To be quite frank I think this has a lot to do with (my assumption) drop in Kindle sales due to rumours of new Kindle versions coming out in October (Kindle V2.0) and early next year (bigger Kindle for textbook market).
However bottomline is that you get $30 by signing up for the Amazon Rewards Visa card, and you get an additional $70 off by using Amazon Kindle coupon code: VISACARD. That’s a nice $100 off the Kindle, and the first Kindle promo code I’ve ever seen.

Get the Amazon Rewards Visa Card and Get $100 Off Kindle
Thanks to Chase, you can get $100 off the Kindle – for a Limited time only. 1) Apply online for Amazon Rewars Visa and get a 30 second decision – If you’re approved you’ll get $30 back on your credit card statement after your Kindle purchase. 2) Add a Kindle to your cart. 3) Place your order using the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card and enter this Kindle promo code: VISACARD to get the additional $70 savings at checkout. (Additional restrictions apply).

Two caveats – Kindle V2.0 is going to be out in October. (My personal opinion) A credit card is like signing a contract with the devil.

[A few more thoughts on the Kindle coupon]

  1. The Amazon Kindle discount code does expire – 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on September 8, 2008.
  2. This suggests very strongly that Kindle sales were hit by the Kindle V2.0 rumours. There’s been a lot of talk around the internet on how it’d be better to wait and that must have led a lot of potential buyers to hold back.
  3. The discount could either mean Amazon is trying to resuscitate Kindle sales, or trying to clear out stock before a new version releases – I think it’s both. The September 8th date probably is just there to create a sense of urgency. And i think the discount will carry on after – probably without the ‘Amazon Visa’ requirement.
  4. The Next big Kindle prediction game is figuring out the dates for next Kindle releases – I’d guess October 12th for Kindle V2.0, and November 21st (or if they can’t make christmas season, then Feb 21st) for KindleText V1.0.
