I searched through the Kindle Store, and couldn’t find any section focused on Book Bargains and/or Deals for Kindle Owners. the Kindle Store is probably the only Amazon department that doesn’t have Deals, Deals of the Day, Outlet, and other bargain sections. Here are a few suggestions for deal sections that would appeal to Kindle users -
- A section that has books with the Biggest Difference between Print Edition price and Kindle edition price.
- A deals section – straight up Kindle books that are >50% off.
- Deals of the Week – Featured Authors that are half price. I’m sure a lot of publishers would be ok with taking a bit of a cut to promote authors.
- A section on self published books and books published just for the Kindle.
- Kindle Author Trials section – where authors can send out 10-1000 copies of Kindle editions of a manuscript or book to get feedback.
With Christmas fast approaching there are going to be a lot of people looking for gift ideas – for themselves, and others. I really hope Amazon starts a Kindle Deals section and starts encouraging authors to offer deals and discounts on their books.

One thing related to this that I’d love to see fixed on the kindle is the ability to order Kindle books for other people as gifts.
But I’m not sure a whole lot of deals sections are necessary. For example, I don’t think that knowing that a particular Kindle book is 80% cheaper than its hardcover equivalent would make me more likely to buy the book.
The Kindle blog usually does a good job of pointing out free Kindle books. I’ve gotten quite a few very good books that were free for limited periods of times.
A Kindles trial or preview section would be good — let me sign up for particular genres and authors can send me samples of their book for some reader feedback. Even allow my reading history to be anonymously searchable by a publisher to make a decision whether to ask me for feedback — that way they could target people who read or liked certain books, etc. Obviously you have to be careful with privacy issues in this case but it’s got a lot of possibility.
