Kindle shipping delays have increased – If you want a Kindle or want to gift a Kindle this Christmas you’d better order one now. This is rather surprising news – it’s 18 days since the Kindle went out of stock. You’d think the combination of Amazon’s measures to get more stock, the 2-3 weeks delay, lack of the $50 discount code, and rumors of Kindle 2.0 would all combine to reduce demand. Instead delays have increased from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks. This probably happended today or yesterday since I don’t recall seeing it before.
There are two probable explanations why delays have increased (or perhaps a combination of the two) -
- A lot of people are still buying the Kindle – for themselves and as a Christmas Gift for a family member. And they just want the Kindle to get here before December 24th.
- A certain part is out of stock and its affecting the Kindle. I vaguely recall reading somewhere (please leave a comment if it was on your blog and I’ll add the reference) that its low stock in the Kindle battery that is aggravating delays. And there’s some truth to it because Kindle batteries are temporarily unavailable, with no date of when they’ll be back in stock.
Its 2007 all over again, and at that time shipping delays had gone up to 5-6 weeks. Time to order your Christmas Kindle now.
