I was hoping for some magical announcement on the Kindle’s 1st year anniversary (new features? kindle 2.0? $100 off? free books?). In the absence of anything more exciting here are the top Kindle related posts that I’ve come across in my online wanderings during the first year of the Kindle’s existence -
- Igor’s Kindle Hacks Post that revealed amazing things like Kindle’s GPS capabilities and a ton of super useful shortcuts and hidden features.
- TechCrunch for breaking out the Kindles sales numbers that everyone now takes for granted (Note: This figure is still refuted/unconfirmed by Amazon). This post provides a figure that is optimistic and plausible, and the ‘leaked from amazon’ back-story gave it enough credibility to become the defacto figure.
- NewsWeek’s Steven Levy’s introductory The Future of Reading post on the Kindle. Overly enthusiastic – yes. However, a great introduction to the Kindle and its potential impact.
- Mike Shatzkin’s 15 Predictions for Book Publishing in 2008 post. This might seem a bit off-topic. However, when you consider how many of these are relevant to the Kindle and how uncannily accurate they are, it definitely deserves to be on the list.
- This is more about the idea, rather than a specific post – Len Edgerly’s Kindle Chronicles is a weekly podcast (every friday), with a tech tip, a guest interview, and other cool stuff. Belongs on this list for expanding what ‘kindle related post’ means.
- Mark Mahaney’s revised estimates pegging Kindle as a $1 billion business by end 2010. (If anyone has a link to the original article please let me know). While you might question its validity, there’s no doubt that it created a ton of buzz, and also accounted for a huge share price spike.
- Jan Zlendich at the Kindle Reader wrote a great post listing every Oprah Book Club book ever, and also links to the ones available on the Kindle. Her blog is a great source for reviews of books available for the Kindle.
- Joe Wikert of Kindleville blog had a Kindle webinar and posted the questions and answers across two posts – Kindle Webinar 1, and Kindle Webinar 2.
- Its just a compilation of links – however, an impressive one. CollegeDegrees.com’s 100+ Kindle Hacks, Tips, Resources list.
- BoyGeniusReport‘s leaked Kindle pictures post – if it really is Kindle 2, it’s a huge scoop and easily worthy of this list.
- From Kindleville, an interview of teacher Chris Edwards, teacher of World History at Fishers High School, who’s using Kindles in the ClassRoom. Bravo!
- Rapid Repair’s Amazon Kindle Take Apart Guide – a really good look at Kindle’s Internals.
Add in your own favorites. I really wish that on Nov 19th, 2009 I’ll be able to compile a list of the Best Kindle Applications and it’ll include apps like ManyFolders, KindleJournal, GPS+, and many more.

#3 The Newsweek story
which I found accidentally on November 19
led me to become a buyer
within the first 4.5 hours
So two days later I had my Kindle
It has been everywhere with me since
I don’t know if that’s life-changing
I had planned to slow my travel
and put more emphasis on books
I had missed in 40 years of hard work
but I sure am grateful
for the timely Newsweek article
Good links for the kindle! Thanks! …What do you think is the best place for free kindle books?
