You might prefer to look at the Kindle 2 Cover Buying Guide. That post is specifically focused on Kindle 2 covers. This list is focused on Kindle cases for 1 and 2.
There may be a variety of reasons that you want to get a new kindle case. If you want to buy a new case/cover because the Kindle keeps slipping out the case it ships with, take a look at this excellent illustrated kindle case velcro hack on Flickr on how to use velcro with your Kindle case and make it work perfectly. This is a cheap, 15 minute solution that really works. You can also go with a single piece of velcro and a simpler solution.
Here are the best and most popular Kindle cases, covers and cover ideas -
- My absolute favorite are Strangedog.com’s hand made kindle covers – they’re reasonably priced, limited edition (by dint of necessity as opposed to marketing), hand made, and beautiful. You can also have personalized ones and/or your suggestions made. Very limited in number. You can read in them. Edit: I also really liked knitted covers I’ve seen – don’t know if anyone makes them professionally. Perhaps at etsy.com.

- M-Edge Genuine Leather Kindle Case. I have included a picture of the red one and the white one - I think it looks really good. They have a variety of different colors available. Its supposed to be compatible with eLuminator booklight (whatever that is). Note that there are only 3 or 4 brands of kindle cases in the Kindle Store. MEdge seems to be the most popular. Their cheaper model is out of stock.
- Another favorite is this kindle case thread at Amazon discussing how to make a Kindle cover that looks just like a book. Its strikingly beautiful and no more complaints about missing a book’s feel and touch (well i guess some people are going to miss the paper). The full size images are at http://imageevent.com/artsci/kindle.

Kindle Hand Made Cover/Case
- Kroo Reversible Kindle Sleeve (note: its a sleeve and you can’t read the kindle when its inside) - For $29.99 and good ratings (4 stars). It comes in Blue/Green, Black/Red, and Gray/Pink.
- SFBags – they have a variety of Kindle cases and covers (an earlier post). Note: You can’t read while the kindle is in these.
- Messenger Bag for Amazon Kindle
– this is an expensive one at $69.99. It has a lot of compartments and you can carry other stuff in it.
- Stylz has an interesting new leather kindle cover – the Avante Garde for $49.99. It has good features like inner pockets so do check out the pictures at their site.

Er… two small pieces of velcro have fixed all my Kindle problems with the cover that comes with it.
I just bought my wife the red leather M-Edge and it’s pretty nice, though not exactly cheap at $45. It arrived this week (on the same day as her back-ordered Kindle) even though the official release date is 11/30 and the Amazon page notes a one to three week delay. There is a loop on the inside spine for a pen and slots on the inside front cover for docs, business cards and/or perhaps a small notebook. No Kindlesque snap-lock technology, but the four corners seem to hold it in pretty good.
