It’s November, 2010 and Amazon have brought back refurbished kindles -
- Refurbished Kindle 2 is $119 compared to a new Kindle 2 which is $189.
- Refurbished Kindle 2 US is $139 which is quite cheap.
Overall, it provides three very good price points for various new and refurbished kindles – $189, $219, and $259. It’ll be interesting to see whether this means Amazon are trying to clear stock for a Kindle 2 or competing against lower priced eReader competitors.
Sept 15th: Refurbished Kindle 2 for $219, and Refurbished Kindle 1 for $149 is now available at Amazon.
July 16th, 2009 update: Refurbished Kindles for $199 at Amazon. This is great and in keeping with the Kindle 2′s price-cut to $299. Used Kindle prices have alse begun falling.
Dec 11th 5:01 pm – refurbished Kindle 1 for $329 currently available at Amazon. They were sold out in 3 hours.
9:30 pm Dec 3rd – Out of Stock – not sure for how long.
4:11 pm Dec 3rd – Refurbished Kindles for $329 currently available at Amazon.
Dec 2nd update – - Refurbished Kindles again at Amazon. 3 hours later and refurbished kindles are, once again, sold out.
Nov 30th Update – Refurbished Kindle is now sold out. And prices for used kindles are increasing.
Nov 29th update – The $327 Refurbished Kindle is having an impact – someone is now selling a used kindle for $429 (much better than the earlier $700+ prices). Good move by Amazon. In more ways than one.
There’s a Refurbished Kindle available at Amazon for $329. Click on the link to go directly there. They’re showing only 1 available – however, even after I ordered one it’s still showing availability.
I basically had a moving to Canada bank address change fiasco and the one I’d ordered had to be cancelled – I can’t wait till Feb for a Kindle so I ordered the refurbished one – even though I’m super reluctant to buy refurbished stuff - well, my first PC in the US was refurbished too and that worked out.
It clearly shows ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ , is eligible for super-saver shipping, etc. – so it’s clearly Amazon selling refurbished kindles. I’d have preferred a $250 price point – however, given that it’s going on ebay for over $700 I understand the $329 price.
- The cheapest used Kindle is $795 at Amazon MarketPlace. And at similar prices on eBay. VERSUS
- Amazon is selling a Refurbished Kindle, with a 1 year warranty for $329.
Easy Decision.
Edit: Some people have listed the used Kindle at prices over $1000 – that’s just wrong.
My Thoughts on Refurbished Kindle Availability:
I have no idea how many refurbished kindles Amazon has left to sell. There are a decent number of kindles that have falls or other problems and get replaced. I think there is enough of a demand to sell out these refurbished kindles in 1 to 2 weeks.

Thanks for the tip! I am hoping this brings down the prices on eBay as well…
Just bought 2 on Amazon, and both shipped same day.
Thank you. I ordered 2 Kindles on the 20th with an expected delivery in the middle of NEXT FEBRUARY. Because of your tip about refurbs, I just ordered 2 that are going to be delivered in 3 days. Oh yeah, and they were cheaper.
