It’s 10 days since the waiting time for Kindles spiked from 3-4 weeks to 11-13 weeks. That was on November 24th. It’s now Dec 5th. That’s 11+ days.
The Kindle is still out of stock – worse, the delays are still 11-13 weeks. Here’s what’s happened in those 11 days -
- People are buying used and new Kindles on eBay and Amazon – often at twice the price of a new Kindle.
- People are selling used Kindles and asking for prices like $1000 on Amazon MarketPlace.
- Amazon has thrice (to the best of my knowledge) provided refurbished Kindles for $329, and each time the Kindles have sold out in hours.
- A few of these refurbished kindles have shown up moments later on eBay.
- Interest in the Kindle continues to increase with a few solitary ‘Will you be getting a Kindle?’ articles hedged between a lot of ‘Kindles unavailable for Christmas articles’.
And through all of this, the 11-13 weeks delay line hasn’t budged at all. In the beginning of this year Mr. Bezos had apologized for the delays in getting Kindle stock. That’s not what anyone wants – just a Kindle – quicker than 11 weeks.
And in case you were wondering -
Today’s Dec 5th – 11 weeks from now is Feb 19th, 2009. 13 weeks from today is March 5th.
