There was a comment on my Kindle Magazines Round-up Post saying that Portfolio.com is headed to the Kindle soon. That’s great news and since the update is from Scott Havens, the Director of Business Development, Digital Media for Conde Nast Portfolio.com, it’s legit.
Speaking of which, you should do a cursory check to make sure that something decent like a LinkedIn profile or your website shows up as the first result for your name.
Another new magazine that’s been added is Politico – it’s interesting that it’s already received some bad reviews. In some ways it’s an ideal case study of how not to launch a magazine. By taking a blog and launching it as a newspaper/magazine and putting it at a high price point, they’ve managed to upset some people, who’ve all stopped by and put down a 1 star review.
Now everyone stopping by and not reading the reviews and the reason for the 1 star will assume the magazine lacks quality. On the other hand releasing it as a magazine gets it a lot more publicity as its one out of 22 magazines and Amazon put up a mention of it on its Amazon Kindle blog, and so forth. It would have been lost among the 1000 or so kindle blogs.
I’m still waiting for more Kindle Magazine additions in the Kindle Store.
