John Gapper at FT had an interesting post about how Amazon sends Kindle 2s from a field in Indiana. Based on a local newspaper’s reporting and Kindle 2 owners’ mentions of Kindle 2s shipping from Indiana he pieced together the actual location – Anson Blvd, Whitestown, Indiana.
The step at which he got stuck was that Google Maps’ satellite image showed the site when it was undeveloped i.e. literally a field.

Field of Grass - Before Amazon/Kindle 2 Warehouse went up
Of course, there are two other providers that I know of, Live Earth and Yahoo Maps, and at http://www.flashearth.com/ you can check both as well as NASA satellite images. Here’s what they show -
Yahoo Maps doesn’t show anything except a field from zoomed out views – However, miraculously, at the highest zoom-in it shows the warehouse -

Kindle 2s start from here - via Yahoo Maps
And then it’s Live Earth which actually gets it totally right. First the zoomed out view, where it does catch the factory -

And then the zoomed in view which has a scary level of detail.

So there you have it – the warehouse where Amazon stores its Kindle 2s before shipping them out to you.
