TechCrunch is using their ‘reliable source’ within Amazon to claim that 300K Kindle 2s have been sold already. This reliable source is the same one that leaked -
- 240K Kindle Sales in August 2008.
- October Release of Kindle 2 (which obviously didn’t happen).
- Kindle 2 availability in multiple colours.
300K in 2 months and 1 week is rather optimistic. My most probable estimate was 170K, and best case estimate was 225K.
TechCrunch is saying that Amazon, in the middle of the biggest recession since WW-II, sold 300K Kindle 2s at $359 each.
TechCrunch is also saying -
- 400K Kindle 1s sold in all.
- Amazon expects 800K Kindle 2s will sell in 2009.
The latter estimate seems rather cautious - If Amazon really sold 300K K2s in just 9-10 weeks, then surely, including holiday season 2009, they should be aiming for an additional 1.2 to 1.5 million Kindle 2 sales in 2009.
I’d love to hear your thoughts – Do you think Amazon has already (April 16th, 2009) sold 300K Kindle 2s?
