Kindle News and Links

Fast news day today with lots of interesting Kindle News -

  1. AmazonFresh adds Books –  Now you can have books delivered with your next order of Amazon groceries.
  2. A very good post on Books, Publishing and the current challenges, at The Nation.
  3. Amazon sues Discovery back. Discovery has some eBook Reader patents and sued Amazon. Well, Amazon has a ton of ecommerce patents and sued Discovery back.
  4. Random House follows up turning off TTS on Kindle 2 by launching a social site for book lovers – ReaderSpace.co.uk. This goes with their AuthorSpace.co.uk site launched last year.
  5. Gene Munster of Piper Jaffrey thinks Apple will release a 7-10″ tablet device in first half of 2010 for $500-$700. He adds (courtesy Apple Insider) -

“While we do not expect this to be a core selling point for the device, it would make sense for Apple to develop an electronic reading app for the device (and possibly for iPhones and iPod touches too) along with digital books sold on the iTunes Store,”

  6. Oprah worked her magic on the Kindle last year. Now its Twitter and Skype. Oprah mentioned last month Twitter and it hit 32 million visitors for the month (more than The New York Times). Today she’s talking about Skype.
  7. An interesting new iPhone ereader app called Eucalyptus that focuses on Gutenberg titles. They also got banned by the Apple Store and got a ton of free publicity.
  8. Alyce Lomax at Motley Fool thinks a Bailout for the Newspaper Industry is in the works.
  9. Finally, the best – a really good post on Free Vs Paid and newspapers’ dilemma.

My Thought for the Day:

  1. (can’t remember where it’s from) Any business based on exploiting ignorance of its customers can’t last with the advent of the Internet.
