The deal on the iGo wall and car charger for the Kindle 1 made me wonder about whether there were other deals like that i.e. a $4.24 pack instead of a $19 or $29 pack. Here are the all the choices to save 25%, 50%, or more on what you’d pay otherwise -
Kindle 1 & Kindle 2 Covers and Cases
Kindle 1:
- K1 does come with a cover. A good replacement is Octovo Leather (synthetic leather) Slip Cover for the Kindle 1 - just $4.99. do read the reviews as there are a few red flags including instruction diagrams printed on the back cover, it being a slip case and only useful for carrying (you can’t read Kindle 1 while in the case), and that it won’t fit Kindle 1 if you have a kindle skin on.
- Another good replacement is the MEdge Executive Jacket for $19.99 (50% off). Its got a 4 star rating. Also available in red and royal blue for the same price and in brown and mocha for $14.99.
Kindle 2:
- If you’re looking for a very reasonably priced case, consider the MyGift Silicon Rubber Skin Case that comes with 2 free screen protectors. Its just $9.99, very well reviewed, and since its half-transparent it lets you see the page turn buttons. Its available in various colors.
- You can also get 2-packs of these from MyGift for just $11.99.
Kindle 1 & Kindle 2 Extended Warranty

Kindle Skins
MyGift make good protective decal skin stickers for Kindle 1 and Kindle 2 and sell them at a reasonable $14.99. They have 461 options so you’ll probably find one you like (my favorite is the Van Gogh Starry Night one).
Kindle Power Adapters
Instead of
- Amazon Replacement power adapter for Kindle 2 and Kindle DX: $14.99; or
- Essential Kit for Kindle 2, Kindle DX (car and wall charger): $29.95
Get the iGo Kindle 1 Wall and Car charger for $4.24 and Kindle 2 iGO Tip (which ought to work on DX too) for $6.76 – that’s $11 exactly.
For the Kindle 1, the iGO Kit for just $4.24 is perfect.
Note: The higher priced kits are sometimes ‘rapid charging’ so its not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

- Get the V-MODA Bass Frequency Earbuds at 50% off ($24.95). These are 4 star reviewed. You can also find 3.5 star reviewed JBuds at 63% off.
- Another 4 star reviewed headphones are the Sennheiser CX 400 for $29.95 (67% off).
- A cheaper option are the JVC HAFX66B Air Cushion Headphones for $17.79 (41% off). 4 star rating across 26 customer reviews.
Reading Lights
A quick way to save is get the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 LED Light (Silver) for $12.95, instead of the $19.99 black one highlighted in the Kindle Store. It has the same super LEDs.
