Bala Sankar was promoting his book and asking for a review in a comment and I promised to feature his book in a post if he dropped the book price from $7.99 to $1 -$2. Rather surprisingly, he did. So for just $0.99 you can get yourself Bala Sankar’s Web On-The-Go, a book that -
- Uses a forecast of a world that is wirelessly connected to explain innovation.
- The underlying theme of the book is innovation, how innovation enables freedom, and recognizing innovation’s dynamics, emergent patterns, and predictability.

Why Independent Authors should price their first few books at $1.
As we look at the ability for anyone to publish a book, succeeding as an author comes down to -
- Whether you can get enough people to take a look at it i.e. find out about it and buy it.
- How good your book is.
At $7.99 an independent author’s book doesn’t really stand much of a chance.
At $1, suddenly you have a lot more people willing to take a chance. The more it sells, the more other people can find out about it.
Also, by pricing your book at $1 you’re indicating that you understand you still have to build up your brand and earn readers’ trust. And that you value spreading your work and your ideas over money.
Why Independent Authors should focus on Kindle Owners
Three main reasons -
- Independent authors are already succeeding in the Kindle Store. If they can, so can you.
- Kindle Owners are very willing to support independent authors.
- You can compete on price.

Are this blog’s readers buying independent author’s books?
I’d totally missed this until today.
For nearly every independent author featured in my ‘Self-Published Kindle Store Rising Stars’ post, people have visited the book page from the blog and people have bought their books.
So its obvious that people fundamentally want to support upcoming talent.

I agree, you need to get the word out there about your books before you can inflate the price. I currently have two books priced under a dollar.
