June 26th update: the Kindle DX is now sold out for 4-6 weeks.
What’s going on here? First, the DX was out of stock till the 17th, and now that it’s the 16th, the Kindle DX is out of stock again – this time till the 22nd of June.
It seems -
- Amazon are getting weekly shipments of the Kindle DX.
- The amount of supply matches demand exactly so that there’s always a 7 day delay.
I find it interesting that the mainstream media started a series of posts around ‘Kindle DX sold out in 2 days’ when it had been sold out even before launch. Must be a really slow news day.

I just arrived here after my Internet cable connection went OUT in the whole neighborhood just as I was looking to order a DX despite some basic features it lacks, which are in your wish list and mine.
Before my wish list … a tale of the Kindle 2.
I got my Kindle 2 to go to Comcast to look up the phone contact. The K2 crashed at that point. It came right back, apparently refreshed, with no assist from me.
So I went back to Comcast and this time it didn’t crash and never did balk again the entire session. Here’s my path on the web with the small, underpowered Kindle 2:
1. Started an order while reading your review here.
2. That took me to my Amazon account where I signed in.
3. Ordered that, but realized I didn’t have my gift certificate
credit with their long numbers.
2. Went to Yahoo mail to get my gift certificate credits to
apply
2. Yahoo was too busy to deal with my Kindle 2.
3. I went to GMail where Yahoo mail copies are auto-forwarded. No problem there at all. Retrieved the mail from there and the 4 coupon codes.
4. Hit the Back button and was on the Amazon order again.
5. Typed in the gift certificate codes. – no prob
6. Chose my shipping.
7. Completed my order and got confirmation.
Came back here to my pc to check on one last detail and then turned off the Kindle, as I saw that my cable lights were blinking again.
On my computer I checked my recent orders and there it was! It’s not due to arrive until June 24 though I chose 1-day delivery. I’m sure you’re right that they’re doing batches a week at a time.
BUT wanted to say how well, the little device did when my cablemodem lost consciousness. It bopped between amazon, yahoo, and gmail and got back there right where I’d paused and then took all the codes.
MOST intense wishes.
1. Active links in Table of Contents for PDFs
2. FOLDERS
3. Highlighting and dictionary with PDFs.
Notes would be nice but not as high up on my list.
Those are the important ones for me, though #3 is obviously not crucial or I wouldn’t have ordered one.
Thanks much for your analyses that are always up to date !
If the K2 is this adept when needing to go to several web pages and then back to a waiting order, I am looking forward to the DX, since it’s said to be faster on the web and it’ll be nice to see it much larger.
