10,000 Feet View: The June 10 Kindle DX Launch created little Buzz
Take a look at this image of Kindle buzz over the last 12 months (click for full image) -
The big peaks are -
- Oprah Kindle Effect around October 24th.
- Kindle 2 Announcement on Feb 9th.
- Kindle 2 Release on Feb 24th.

1,000 Feet View: Kindle 2 Launch was magic, Kindle DX launch wasn’t
Here’s what the search trends from Google Insights look like for the last 90 days -
What Amazon did very well at the time of the Kindle 2 launch was -
- Give a date for when pre-orders would ship.
- Keep the announcement date and release date relatively close (15 days).
- Not schedule the release around other big releases.
That resulted in the two huge spikes in interest in February 2009 (in the previous image).
With the Kindle DX we don’t see the second spike. Does that mean Kindle DX isn’t doing well?
Reviewing the Kindle DX Buzz – Ground Level View
Actually, if you dig really deep you see an encouraging trend -
- In the first graph above we saw there was a gradual upswing in interest.
- If we look at the 30 day graph, we see that interest is indeed going up -
It seems that as kindle dx reviews come out, and people see that 75% of dx owners are giving it 4 or 5 stars, people are getting more interested in the kindle dx. Also, as a comparison, for the Kindle 2 it was 86% of owners who were giving it 4 or 5 stars.
