Great News – Wikipedia have launched a mobile site that supports the Kindle (and also iPhone, Android, Palm Pre). The site has been in beta for a while – However, its gone live today.
Here’s a quick look -
A few snippets are interesting -
- They use redirects so it might cause problems with the Kindle browser – Wonder what exactly they mean by saying ‘Kindle is supported’.
- Its been in beta for a while.
- There’s a tool that converts Wikipedia pages for the Kindle. Hopefully, the Wikipedia mobile version makes things easier and eliminates having to do any conversions.
Wikipedia mobile ought to be a big hit. And being able to access it straight from the Kindle’s browser would be great. Do leave a comment on how it works for you.

When I tested it using my iPhone and using my laptop, I got a “bad gateway” error on every link. Then 2 minutes later it just worked. Feels like a beta, but looks good when it works.
Can’t test is on a Kindle though.
I just tried it out on the DX, and it worked immediately. Very nice. Very fast too.
And, I’m just in ‘Basic Mode’ which means good contrast with b&w and not the many faint shades of gray when trying to use ‘Advanced/Desktop.’
Will try it out on the K2 later. If it doesn’t work, I’ll add another comment. Thanks for this.
Amazon must have had advance word on this because my DX pre-set bookmarks have, near the top the exact same mobile URL for Wikipedia!
that’s really interesting.
