Apple iReader OS Video – Is this really it?

A user at the MacRumors forum, GonewiththeWind, has leaked videos of the OS for the Apple iReader / iNetbook. Here’s  a video capture (in case the originals get pulled off of YouTube) -

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.

MacRumors users initially throught the pictures he put up were fake. However, when he added videos a lot of people changed their opinion. For some reason this thread and the videos haven’t gotten much attention yet (just 1,000 or so views of the videos).

Apple iNetbook Videos

The videos are also on YouTube if you want to use them for your blog etc. –

  1. Apple iNetbook Video 1 showing some basic screens – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4h8ldrbYe4 Just 12 seconds and not really worth it.
  2. Apple iNetbook Video 2 showing use of the on-screen keyboard and an ‘apps’ app –

The Icons shown include -

  1. Maps
  2. Photos
  3. Calendar
  4. Email
  5. Weather
  6. iMovie
  7. iTunes
  8. Safari
  9. Notes
  10. Calculator

Thoughts on the Rumored Apple iReader OS

  1. The wallpaper reminds me of the windows 7 lagoon screensaver. Will add a video in a day or two.
  2. Apple tends to do the ‘actual OS’ with fake hardware, and fake OS with actual hardware strategy to avoid leaks. That might be why he has what looks like a neanderthal projector.
  3. If this is real, then a September release seems rather likely.
  4. One clue it might be a hoax is, as a user pointed out, that the OS version is the same as of the iPhone OS 3.0. Or it might just mean that iReader uses the iPhone OS.
  5. 120 GB capacity – that certainly indicates a focus on movies and games. It also means a higher price.
  6. The icons hint at the presence of iMovie and a camera.
  7. The user who posted up the pictures and the video says he has no access to the hardware, which would make sense given Apple’s usual secrecy.

Overall, its impressive that someone would leak out a dev test version. The thread has some good pictures so do check it out.

  1. “It also means a higher price”

APPLE means a higher price. or should i say, “base price”… then all the gouging starts for the “options” that are required to make it useful.
