It’s interesting writing a blog.
There are always things that can save you from writer’s block.
- Breaking News to be updated in a rush.
- Lip Balm that reminds you of an eReader company that sank like a rock.
- Names that make you blush.
Your readers can write back -
- Comments that disrupt.
- Words that make you feel it was a waste of time.
- Ideas that make you feel it was worth the work.
- Ones that start ‘I like your blog but this is stupid’ and ones that end with magic words.
Writer’s Block is good though.
It’s usually when you are forced to think and search for something worth writing then you know.
- The writing will flow.
- The reading will be good.
- Your readers’ time is well used.
When there are easy escapes to Writer’s Block the lack of quality shows.
Kindle going international is significant. Nook Lending - who knows?
The rest seems trivial and a chore.
- Will anyone even remember Alex the dual screen eReader? Or the way enTourage eDGe alphabets go high and low.
- Will we care about two Que Press Releases – one to announce its name, one about where it’ll be sold.
- Perhaps next week Que will inform us that it’ll be available in 2 colors – Black as Night, and Transparently Attention Seeking White.
Nook is the best-selling product at B&N’s site.
There’s not much that can be written about that. Just speculation and conspiracy theories – it’s all old hat.
Writer’s Block is just a Test
It’s almost as if part of you is telling you to hold off and write only the best.
- If we had singer’s block every album would have 6-7 hit tracks.
- More Writer’s Block and Newspapers would fly off the racks.
Though they’d only ship once a week, if that.
Sitting and looking out at the night – even the sign on the water looks like a stop light.
- Writer’s Block - saying not to wrangle Nook is #1 into a complete post when all it deserves is a line.
- It hints at looking out at a whole city and wondering what writing has touched them most - Was it a poem? Perhaps a story. Perhaps a memory of old.
The Curse of Blogging
Half of it is that there is always an easy escape from the dark nights.
- You never get that feeling of utter hopelessness – no staring down the barrel of a gun.
- You never have a blank slate. An Apple Slate perhaps but not a blank one.
- No hoping for light at the end of the tunnel because its flood-lit with stadium lights.
The other half is that there is never a sense of completion.
- It’s a never-ending story – you can never put down your pen and say you’ve won.
- There’s always a new chapter - another version of the Kindle, Sony’s new product, Google saving the world.
What Do Authors Do?
There are no Kindle Price Cuts and no Nook. No news, nothing new.
There isn’t Nicholson Baker wreaking vengeance like Kill Bill 2.
An author can look back on a month and find no crutches to help with Writer’s Block -
- No secret chinese manufacturer.
- No angry commenter who thinks reading is best on the iPhone.
- No people anticipating the new shiny reader.
- No people in love with the old.
The Anti Writer’s Block
Blogging is the anti writer’s block.
- Instead of what to write it’s what to ignore.
- Instead of ideas crafted out of solitude its words carved out of news.
- It’s a game without an end. A game without a score.
- No masterpieces – just thoughts and views.
When it’s done, it’s done. Not timeless. Not eternal. Just Done.
