Not much Amazon can do about it. Book rights are auctioned off according to territories and perhaps Amazon doesn’t get agreements or doesn’t have the time to talk to a ton of different publishers every time they want to do a free book.

I’m gearing up for the Holiday’s, and updating my wish lists, and came across something which I consider to be a big mistake on Amazon’s part.

There’s no way to buy Kindle Books for someone other than yourself.

Why is that a big problem? Well for me, a significant number of books that I own, were purchased for me by friends and family for birthdays, Christmas, whatever.

For this Christmas, I have no way for people to buy books for my new Kindle! I’m stuck with dead tree versions if I want to receive them as gifts. Which frankly, sucks.

Also my grandmother (who turns 95 next month) saw my Kindle, and now wants one. Large Print edition of books are huge, and she gets tired of lugging them around. She tried my Kindle and LOVED it. So the family is pooling our money to buy her a Kindle and some books.

Problem: We can’t buy her any books!

I know we can buy her an Amazon gift card, but really, a gift card isn’t quite the same as having her turn on her Kindle and finding some new books sitting in her reading list.
