Yes, yes – it was just yesterday when we had 4 kindle free books. The slow torture of wondering whether there will be merely one free book on a day or 4. Perhaps some kindle book deals too.
- Update: Grace Notes – December Free Preview by Philip Yancy has 31 free readings for December. It’s free.
- Kindle Buy One Get One Free - Buy Case Histories by Kate Atkinson for $7.99 and get a free download of One Good Turn. The book is rated 4 stars across 176 customer reviews. BOGOF offer valid through end of 2009.
- Orbit’s $1 ebook for the month is actually an Omnibus. Stan Nicholls’ Orcs has all three books of the trilogy – Bodyguard of Lightning, Legion of Thunder, and Warriors of the Tempest. Incredible value for $1. The ratings aren’t good though.
- Come Toy with Me by Cara Summer – A free Harlequin Romance audiobook from Audible. Thanks to Bookratt.
- 6 John Steinbeck Novels in 1 package – The Short Novels of John Steinbeck for $15.84. Some of these are $6 to $8 if bought separately so might be a good deal if you want to read 2 or more of them.
Most of these are courtesy MobileRead.
This knitting book caught my eye – Knit Two by Kate Jacobs. What a beautiful cover -
More Free Books – The Deviations Series by Elissa Lacohm
Elissa Lacohm was a John W. Campbell finalist in 1985 and this year two compilations that include a story each from her are up for a Hugo Award and a Bram Stoker Award.
Well, to cut to the chase – she has 3 free novels at her site and will release another one later. Dark Fantasy (not for kids) and Science Fiction themes.

Jeff Bezos Interview in the NY Times
Here are some choice snippets from Deborah Solomon’s strangely fascinating interview with Mr. Bezos -
On Reading in the Bathtub – I’ll tell you what I do. I take a one-gallon Ziploc bag, and I put my Kindle in my one-gallon Ziploc bag, and it works beautifully.
Percentage of digital book sales – It won’t be too long before we’re selling more electronic books that we are physical books.
On Amazon’s expansion – We want to have earth’s biggest selection. Earth’s biggest river, earth’s biggest selection.
On keeping 65% of indie book revenue – You’re an author, what does your royalty check look like? Are your royalties 35 percent?
The way the interview ends makes you wonder.
And here’s a Wired interview from 2005 which has some things which Mr. Bezos probably would disagree with today -
How much of retail sales do you think eventually will be online, and how much offline?
I think online ultimately will be 10 to 15 percent of retail. The vast majority of retailing will stay in the physical world because people have acute needs, they want things now.Do physical bookstores have anything to offer that Amazon doesn’t?
One thing is face-to-face meetings with authors. And what Howard Schultz at Starbucks likes to call a third place, where people go and sit and spend time. We humans are a gregarious species; we like to mingle with other humans.
Do read the very end of the interview – that’s a trend that’s still exploding.
