Half Price eBooks Store?
It’s a bit surprising that we don’t have any eBook stores focused exclusively on eBook deals.
Is there room for a Half Price eBook store?
Most of us are familiar with the Half Price Books chain that sells used books for cheap prices – usually half or less of the list price.
With eBooks selling used books is out of the question. However, what about selling books from backlists and smaller Publishers for half the $9.99 price.
Half Price eBooks would include -
- Only eBooks between $0 and $5.
- Lots of indie authors at $0, $1, and $2.
- Lots of first books in a series for free.
- Lots of books from smaller publishers for $3 to $5.
- Backlist titles from established authors.
- Whatever eBooks publishers are willing to give deals on and price below $5.
It’s an idea worth considering because there are a section of eReader owners that feel $10 is on the higher side and there are numerous situations where clustering book prices around $5 makes sense.
Half Priced eBooks would occupy an unoccupied niche
There aren’t really any eBook Deal sites focused entirely on deals.
We have Smashwords that focuses on indie authors, and we have stores like Fictionwise that offer credits for future purchases. However, no store focuses exclusively on deals.
At the same time the stores for the Kindle, Sony, and Nook either have no official Deals section or tiny ones. We’re talking about a few dozen deals that are either highlighted or can be found on the charts.
Reality is we could have a store with 100,000 or more really good books all priced at half the $9.99 price. Whenever it’s created it would quickly carve out a very lucrative niche for itself.
