The Dearth of News
There seems to be a huge dearth of kindle related news this week. Looking at Google News all we get is talk of kindle for blackberry, Apple matching Amazon $9.99 prices, and the rumor that Amazon will start giving away free Kindles with Prime memberships.
Those are items that wouldn’t even get much coverage during a week with lots of news. It seems that everyone is waiting for the launch of the iPad in March and the Kindle 3 (whenever that happens).
There’s a certain slowness to February this year.
We have a lot of things piling up – Kindle Apps, iPad, new eReaders, color ePaper - and over the next few months we are going to see big and small news items seize the limelight.
Fewer iPad articles
It’s somewhat refreshing to see a drop in the number of iPad articles.
There are still rumors and occasional good analysis – However, the number of articles has dropped a lot. It’s interesting that there are more articles claiming the iPad won’t succeed now and also more articles with a negative tone. There’s almost a silent conspiracy to predict negative things for the iPad.
The most interesting rumor is that iPad preorders will be available sometime soon – perhaps as soon as the end of the month.
What would be really interesting is to get numbers on iPad sales and changes in eReader sales patterns -
- Do eReader sales go down?
- Do iPad sales trend to 1 million in the first year? 10 million in the first year?
- Do eReader sales go up? It’s unlikely but not impossible.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens.
