free kindle books for thursday night

Here are a whole bunch of free kindle books from outside the Kindle Store -

  1. NB Van Yoos is offering the first two books in his series free to celebrate the arrival of the 4th book. It’s a Science Fiction series and seems quite interesting. It’s scary that we are already at the stage where you have to give away half your series free to create interest. Found via MobileRead
  2. Author Mariah Jovan is giving away the first two books of her series free until Friday 3 pm. Teleread has the free offer details.
  3. Deal Finding Chic has a free 250 page book, How to Bake, courtesy The Prepared Pantry.
  4. Be a Dandelion has a link to a free copy of L. Ron Hubbard’s No Greater Love.
  5. A portuguese free book at Many Books – Oliviera Martins: Estudo de Psychologia by Guilherme Moniz Barreto.
  6. Sweater Quest sweepstakes at Simon & Schuster.

First Two Books Free is the new First Book Free

Should be happy that I’d predicted this would happen – However, how can you be happy when Authors are willing to give away the first 2 books in their series free just to get readers to pick them?

The first time it happened was a month or so ago in the Kindle Store and now we see two indie authors trying it out. Soon everyone will be giving away the first two books free. Then someone will give away the first three books of their series for free and they’ll get a leg up on the competition. Then everyone will have to give away their first 3 books free just to get noticed.

The vicious cycle will continue endlessly – Infinite competition and no costs means people can do the most insane things. The only casualty is the perceived value of books.

  1. I am pretty PC illiterate. How do I download these books to my DX? What format?

  2. It’s a shame, really, that authors have to give away entire books in order to make sales later.
A basic law of economics states that utility and scarcity determines the value of a commodity. It seems that making ebooks more plentiful will not end in the result that authors hope.
