We again have books showing up in searches for free books without yet being free – probably means that in the next few hours all of them will be free. Here are the six free books to kick-off March -
- Primitive by Mark Nykanen and Deborah Smith. Rated 5 stars on 16 reviews. It’s published by BelleBooks who’ve talked about doing free promotions in March so this almost certainly will be free soon.
- Saving Sailor: A Novel by Renee Riva. Rated 5 stars on 5 reviews.
- Booth’s Sister by Jane Singer. Rated 4 stars on 7 reviews. It’s a really interesting looking story about the sister of John Wilkes Booth. Also from BelleBooks.
- As Young as We Feel by Melody Carlson.
- Operation Sheba: Super Agent Series Book 1 by Misty Evans. Rated 4.5 stars on 13 reviews. It’s from Samhain Publishing so it’s also pretty likely to be free soon.
- A Bride Most Begrudging by Deanne Gist. 4 stars on 67 customer reviews.
Please note that this method of figuring out free books has worked in the past but it isn’t guaranteed to keep working. The two BelleBooks books and the Samhain book are almost certainly going to be free – the rest may or may not end up as free.
Also a good cheap book – The Richard Hannay (Super Agent) Collection by John Buchan. It’s $1. There’s also 39 steps by John Buchan for free in the Kindle Store.
The Internet beats out Newspapers as a News Source
Ars Technica covers the news that the Internet has beaten out local and national newspapers as a source of news and is 3rd after local and national TV -
The Internet has surpassed newspapers as a primary way for Americans to get news, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project. That makes the Internet the third most popular news platform overall …
There’s also terrible news for newspapers -
Only 17 percent said they read the print version of a national newspaper, however, and 50 percent said they read local papers. According to Pew, newspapers were most likely to be read by people who were over 50 or those who don’t own cell phones—yikes.
It seems the situation for newspapers keeps getting worse. It doesn’t help that they’re giving away their news free online and trying to charge $30 a month for iPad subscriptions and complaining about the cut they get from Apple and Amazon.

The only one still free as of 10:00am ET is SAVING SAILOR.
Hey!
Primitive and Booth’s Sister should be listed as Free sometime today. If we don’t see the switch we’ll be in touch with our Amazon rep to guarantee it. We also have a young adult fantasy novel on the free list this week: MOONSTONE, by Marilee Brothers. By the way, Primitive just received an excellent review at Climate Progress, one of the top climate-change websites nationally, since Primitive is a thriller about a govt. plot to hide climate disaster from the public.
