DX has just 3G. Both DX 1 and the new Kindle DX 2 with eInk Pearl screen. yes, it’s a bit of a disadvantage because

a) WiFi is very useful in places where AT&T 3G doesn’t reach (or for Kindle DX US version where Sprint 3G doesn’t reach).

b) WiFi is much faster than 3G.

Perhaps a few more things like WiFi downloads are free when outside the US.

Does the DX have WiFi or just the 3G connection, and if so is this a drawback?

Robert, this is what the page says at Amazon –

U.S. power adapter (supports 100V-240V)

You will have to get a physical adapter for the plug for whatever country you are in (to fit into the wall plug/outlet).

You can also charge via the USB cable using any PC or laptop.

How does the Kindle DX do with diagrams such as maps that are in many books of interest to me? Also, how does it do with mathematical equations and graphs? When reading magazines or newspapers, does the Kindle DX display the illustrations?

I find the lack of examples of Kindle displays in these areas of some concern in that it raises my suspicion that it does not perform very well in these areas.

Do other users know if the Kindle DX has 220/110 voltage, for use outside the US?

Because of the inclinometer, if you flip the DX upside down, the screen shifts which then allows for left handed reading. That’s why they eliminated the left hand buttons.

I have been thinking about an ereader for a while, specifically for travel guides and downloading wikipedia when I’m on site for extra info ie checking out a cathedral or a specific artist etc. Does anyone out there have any experience with travel guides and the quality of the ebooks such as architectural drawings or images of paintings or even the quality of the descriptions of the particular site.

I’m in Australia, and with currency conversions, it make a very expensive mistake to purchase an ereader which doesn’t do what I want.
Thanks for any info.
