- It Takes a Genome: How a Clash between our Genes and Modern Life is making us Sick by Greg Gibson.
In It Takes a Genome, Greg Gibson posits a revolutionary new hypothesis: Our genome is out of equilibrium, both with itself and its environment.
Simply put, our genes aren’t coping well with modern culture.
Our bodies were never designed to subsist on fat and sugary foods; our immune systems weren’t designed for today’s clean, bland environments; our minds weren’t designed to process hard-edged, artificial electronic inputs from dawn ‘til midnight. And that’s why so many of us suffer from chronic diseases that barely touched our ancestors.
- Psych Yourself Rich: Get the Mindset and Discipline You Need to Build Your Financial Life by Farnoosh Torabi.
TV’s newest personal finance star shows how to develop the mindset, discipline, and spirit to grow wealth on your own terms—without fear or anxiety, Farnoosh Torabi combines behavioral psychology with real attitude!

- Lessons from a Younger Lover by Zuri Day.
First grade teacher Gwen Smith was happily married–until her husband got himself a twenty-something mistress and filed for divorce. Now just months away from turning forty-one, Gwen is back in her tiny California hometown, caring for her ailing mother, convinced her life is over. Then she meets Ransom Blake.
Ransom is a twenty-six-year-old hunk who pushes every one of Gwen’s buttons.
- Investing in Neglected Stocks by Scott Phillips.
Many years ago, Sir John Templeton offered some straightforward words on investing: “If you find one dozen analysts who all advise to purchase the same stock, you can be sure that the stock will not be a good purchase.”
His point, of course, is that popular stocks often represent poor investments since their prospects have already been well recognized….

- Winners Never Cheat: Even in Difficult Times by Jon M. Huntsman. Rated 4 stars on 23 reviews.
Jon M. Huntsman built a $12 billion company from scratch, the old-fashioned way: with integrity. There were short-term costs and difficult decisions. There were tough times. Times just like today. But ultimately, leading with integrity wasn’t just personally right for Huntsman, it also proved to be the best business strategy.
In Winners Never Cheat, Huntsman tells you how he did it, and how you can, too.
It fascinates me that there are two books from such wildly differing authors about getting rich on today’s list -
- Psych Yourself Rich is from Farnoosh Torabi who’s billed as ‘One of TV’s rising new personal finance stars’. She’s basically famous for telling people on TV how to get out of debt.
- Winners Never Cheat is written by Jon Huntsman who’s a self-made billionaire. He was once the 47th richest man in the US and has given over $1.2 billion to charity.
If you take the ’10,000 hours to master something’ rule and look around you – There are a surprising number of ‘experts’ in nearly every field who don’t have mastery. Yes, they’re better at selling themselves – However, all that does is put the more sellable person in the role of advice-giver instead of the best qualified person. We’re encouraging mediocrity.
Consider this -
how to develop the mindset, discipline, and habits to grow wealth and achieve your goals on your own term – without fear, anxiety, misery, or too much sacrifice.
Farnoosh Torabi combines the latest approaches in behavioral psychology with a disciplined attitude to help you psych yourself into a place of financial well-being.
You’ll learn how to build a healthy view of money, investing, wealth, and aspirations…get beyond “lend-and-spend” to a deeper, more holistic view of money
A deeper, more holistic view?
Are we talking about getting rich or Whole Foods?
Contrast it with -

Obviously ‘without fear, anxiety, misery, or too much sacrifice’ is far more appealing than ‘short term costs and difficult decisions and tough times’. We’ve gotten so good at telling people what they want to hear that we’ve forgotten reality. You can’t just psych yourself into becoming rich – besides the book is written by someone who should be giving advice about how to get a TV show to help people with debt problems.

Thank you so much for the notice on the free genome book by Greg Gibson, I snagged it right away – I recently experienced breast cancer, the tumor was tested by a genomic group in California and I am interested in reading more about this related topic. I actually rewarded myself with the Kindle 3 as a get well present
— Thank you again.
To each its own, but I think the only person who get rich with these get-rich-for-dummies books are its authors. The genome book, on the other hand, looks good. It’s already in my ever growing queue of books to read.
Apparently these books are not free for European customers… they cost $2.30.
That’s a pity, I don’t know why they changed that (I used to be able to download the “free” books for free).
Hello!
I look forward to getting updates about free kindle books.
Thank you very much
Thanks for posting the free books! What is the quickest way to access the free/cheaper books on the Amazon website? I know you have the links, but if you don’t want to keep going back forth between the two websites. Does Amazon just add the freebies to the last page of the “limited-time promotional offers”?
Although freebies are nice in any case, the titles seem kind of random. I’m still trying to decide which I prefer as may main reader (have Nook & ordered k3)– BN does do a nice free Friday title and weekly classics freebies (6-10 titles). They also organize their e-book section so you can find the less than $5 (bargain section). Am I missing something on how to find cheaper/free kindle books easier?
The classics on BN are their reproduction, it seems most of the classics on Amazon may be user produced?
Thanks again for your hard work on this website
Kindle Store doesn’t really have a bargains section.
The best way to find new free books is following the official kindle forum or this blog. There isn’t really any official Amazon update.
1. Hi Switch11,
As per your guidelines, I’m leaving a note about my bargain crime collection, Working Stiffs. It features the Anthony Award winning story, My Father’s Secret.
Working Stiffs…Some jobs are worth killing for.”
Amazon has discounted the book to $2.39.
Thanks.
