  1. Thank you so much for the WOOT link for the $10 cover for Kindle 2.
I was one of the lucky ones that bought the Kindle 2 ‘refurbished’ for $109 – and I could not justify spending $30 or $40 on a just the cover.
But this $10 cover price is just right for me for a very good quality cover with a light.
    Thank you for this link!

  2. I don’t get the Woot thing…when I go to the Woot bookmark I have, I see a treadmill for $799…how are you finding this kind of deal?

    • The WOOT link – from this blog – goes to a special page with this sale for the Kindle cover.

It is not part of the regular WOOT site.

      • Have no idea what you mean – found it on the Amazon kindle forum and it has woot in the url.

      • Is there a way to find these “special pages” other than just stumbling across them? i’d much more likely purchase something from them like this kindle cover than and $800 treadmill if I knew where to check daily. If you just go to woot.com yesterday you saw the treadmill not the cover.

That’s why I was confused, because I already check woot every day for things I might be interested in and never saw this at all until it showed up on the blog.

      • No. The person who put this there said it was special and it makes zero sense. They sold 4,000+ Kindles when they had them on woot. Not sure why they’d hide such a good offer on the cover.

    • don’t know – just found a link on the official kindle forum and posted it here.

      • My thoughts about the Kindle cover sale at the ‘separate special’ WOOT link -

I like that they did this, because it means if you are a buyer, who is really interested in a Kindle cover, you would possibly come across it due to your pre-existing interest in this object, and then you could buy one of this limited quantity.
….so, the customer who REALLY had an interest in this, would be the buyer.

        ***********************
The reason I phrase this in this way – because there are people, who troll the Internet for ‘good deals’, then buy up a HUGE amount – and then re-sell on eBay or at other venues. Those people who buy upa huge amount, and become re-sellers, will sell for a higher price – so this middleman can make a profit off this.

So, by quietly mentioning the sale on a Kindle forum, the end reader of that info, would more likely be a sincere buyer for that product (and not a self-made ‘reseller’).

I’m glad they did it on a separate link.

  3. Some people are predicting Kindle’s demise, what do you think switch11?. Also, it caught my eye the claim that the Nook 2 is already approved by the FCC.

“Now that other companies are entering the digital reader space, it would be a mark of success, not weakness, if Amazon can exit the hardware business entirely.”

    • that author’s ignorance about ereaders is exceeded only by his ignorance.

There is a nook model that looks almost the same as Nook 1 (if the documents they submitted are to be believed) that’s at the FCC. Nook 2 is the only logical guess.

  4. The author’s conclusion doesn’t make sense for me. One reason I can think for Amazon stepping out of the ereaders market is if somebody else came with a much better ereader and/or if Amazon licenses its azw format.

    • eReaders and eBooks are both going to be billion dollar businesses. Plus owning one makes it easier to own the other.

It’s insurance and an advantage and it creates efficiencies. There isn’t going to be a much better ereader – every other big company is trying to be lazy and scoop up readers with non-ereaders.
