quick update on what might be a free kindle book

Update: It seems this might be a preview. Confirmed. Link removed.

Tick Tock by James Patterson is listed as a free preorder. This may or may not be the full book.

Worth a shot. Thanks to Joyce for the update.

Please remember to get this quickly as preorders sometimes disappear.

Here’s a little on the book itself -

NYC’s #1 detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem–the Son of Sam, the Werewolf of Wisteria and the Mad Bomber are all back. The city has never been more terrified!

There was a preview of this book available earlier – So, either there is now a free preorder to ensure a good sales rank, or the preview has been misnamed.

There are now around 223 or so books on offer in the Kindle Store. You can check out the entire list of new free kindle books.

No Deal of the Day Today

Kindle’s Deal of the Day Page has gone missing today. It makes you wonder – Will Amazon be able to find 15 to 20 books every day to put on discount. Will it be changed to a once-a-week thing?

It had become quite a hit, with some of the $2.99 deals even making it to the Top 50.

There must be a lot of work involved in finding 20 books every single day, talking to Publishers, getting them discounted. Perhaps that’s given Amazon pause.

  1. Kindle Student Deal of the Day has “Hackers” by Steven Levy for $1.99 today.

I’m not sure if you need to be a student to get this price. I have Student Prime and it shows $1.99 under my account. I logged out and checked the price – the book still shows as $1.99. So this might work out for others too.

  2. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your prolific blogging about All Things Kindle. [I don't own a Kindle, but do have Kindle apps on both iPod and iPad.] Your commentary about the ebook industry is interesting as well as illuminating and your regular ebook listing updates — noting those that are free as well as those offered at reduced prices — are extremely helpful. Thank you for your efforts!

  3. Tick Tock is showing as $14.99 for the pre-order for me. Is anyone else finding this?

    • Look at the small print in the listing and it shows the Kindle price as $0.00 free, then click on that price or the words “Kindle Edition” and it takes you to a preview screen for the first 28 chapters that are free; not my genre, but enjoy! :)

      • Thanks for the tip on finding the price.

Decided not to download the first 28 chapters if I then need to buy the entire book for the $14.99.

  4. The first 28 chapters only!

  5. The first 28 chapters are Free – not the entire book.

  6. I am NOT ordering this free Patterson book because:
in the past, I have pre-ordered the FREE book, with the description clearly stating it is the full book, BUT when it arrves, it is just a few chapters and not the full book.
Patterson is known for mis-leading info. that it is a free kindle book, so he gets the staistics for a ‘best selling’ book – but he does not deliver the whole book for free.
I’m tired of being a tool for Patterson. On principle, I will not pre-order any FREE offer from him.

    • Lucy, I don’t have any love for Patterson either. However, there were lots of people in the official kindle forum saying the book is free.
It’s another Patterson joke on readers. From now on, I’ll check to make sure it’s free before mentioning a Patterson book.

  7. When I clicked on Kindle 0.00 to “buy,” the system charged me $14.99. I canceled, but it is definitely not a free pre-order.

    • Phyllis, unfortunately, preorders disappear quickly. Thanks for the update – I’ll update the post to reflect that it’s not free any longer.

  8. I just got the pre-order of the first 28 chapters for free. It is still available. FYI
