Monday New Week Free Kindle Books

Thanks to Happy Reader Joyce for a new round of free kindle books.

  1. The Flinch by Julien Scott. Genre: Mind, Health, Body. The description says ‘A book so important we refuse to charge for it’. About facing your fears and facing the flinch (yet another stupid buzz phrase).
  2. The Christmas Bus by Melody Carlson. Genre: Holidays, Religious, Spiritual. Rated 4 stars on 54 reviews. Face the Grinch and the Flinch and don’t you Cringe. If Santa can stuff himself through all those chimneys, you too can face your Zero Moment Of Truth with Pure Serenity (TM).
  3. The Culture Cycle: How to Shape the Unseen Force that Transforms Performance by James Heskett. Genre: Business, Systems and Planning. Rated 4.5 stars on 6 reviews. 384 pages. Apparently, the contribution of culture to organizational performance is quantifiable. So quantifiable that no one has ever successfully done it.
  4. The Open Innovation Marketplace: Creating Value in the Challenge Driven Enterprise by Alpheus Bingham. Genre: Business, Systems and Planning. Rated 4 stars on 11 reviews. 269 pages. All about accessing the long tail of expertise and overcoming the Not invented Here mentality and unleashing things. That’s got to be the favorite word of business book writers – unleash. Leash is just a word that sounds the opposite of what it means. You put an ‘un’ in front of it and it sounds so perfectly leashy. Un…leash. Unleash your leash of corporate unleashiness.
  5. The English Heiress (Heiress, Book One) by Roberta Gellis. Genre: Erotica, Historical Romance. The cover’s one of those trick covers – don’t look carefully and you think it’s about ships or something. Then, amongst the clouds, you notice PDA overdrive and at the top Ellora’s Cave. They might as well name themselves Erotica Cake. 406 pages.
  6. Over Fields of Fire: Flying the Sturmovik in Action on the Eastern Front 1942-45 (Soviet Memories of War) by Anna Timofeeva-Egorova. Genre: Military, History, World War II. This is just bad-ass. I feel hollow for never having flown a Sturmovik or even a plain old Mig-23. 209 pages. Now we have people flying drones from underground bases in Roswell or wherever such bases are undergrounded. Just ain’t the same. It’s like a gunfight at the O.K. Corral and sending in Robots to do the shooting for you. The Clantons are like – Doc, your movements look a bit robotic today. And is that a semi-automatic RoboCop machine gun welded on to your shoulder?
  7. Firms of Endearment: How World-Class Companies Profit from Passion and Purpose by Jagdish N. Sheth. Genre: Business, Human Resources and Personnel Management. Rated 4.5 stars on 23 reviews. Are you feeling guilty about being a capitalist? Try our new 100% guilt-alleviating ‘Passion and Purpose’ treatment. 3 weekly applications to your hair and your guilt at making 500 times what the 99% make will be gone. Works much better than donating to Penguin Orphan Shelters in Alaska or buying 27 pairs of Tom’s Shoes when all you wear is Prada. 324 pages.
  8. Trace’s Psychic (Supernatural Bonds, Book One): 1 by Jory Strong. Genre: Erotica. An Erotica novel that isn’t ashamed to admit it’s Erotica. Men really shouldn’t wear necklaces. At least not ones that look like that. Is she lusting over his abs or that glittering necklace? 198 pages. Published by Erotica Cake.
  9. What’s Stopping You?: Shatter the 9 Most Common Myths Keeping You from Starting Your Own Business by R. Duane Ireland and Bruce Barringer. Genre: Entrepreneurship. Rated 3.5 stars on 8 reviews. 227 pages of Entrepreneurship advice.
  10. Insights from Remarkable Businesspeople (Collection) by D. Michael Abrashoff. Genre: Business and Investing. Rated 4 stars on 1 review. They’ve been giving this away since 2010. Can’t believe there’s just 1 review. A collection of 16 short business books. Apparently, the best way to minimize reviews is to club 16 Business Books together. It scares people to death – more unleashiness than they can handle.

  1. A book so important we refuse to charge for it??

How about, “A book so self-important I refuse to read it?”

  2. Do they have penguins in Alaska? Or do you have to put a leash on them and walk them there from Antarctica? Wouldn’t want a bunch of unleashed penguins wandering around unleashed. Who knows where they might end up? Maybe being the subject of Mr. Popper’s Penguins? [That's a funny kids' book that was free, but it isn't any longer.]

    Thanks for the laughs!!

  3. Well when I clicked through to The Christmas Bus the price listed was $4.81 — definitely NOT free!
