Kindle Omnibus Classics Offerings for Saturday, June 30, 2012

Fill your Kindle with a digital library of classics on a par with collections rarely found even in the largest Universities and Colleges. You may be familiar with these authors from school, a movie version of one of their novels or a Masterpiece Theater Series. Now you can explore their other works in complete and orderly sets. Unlike the heavy and ungainly paper versions of some Complete Works, these Kindle versions are portable — though they are large files. The included tables of contents, annotations and period illustrations make these Omnibus Classics an intensive and enjoyable way to immerse yourself in an already familiar or a new author.

Please Note (from switch): You can find free public domain versions of most of these novels. Jacob has listed out what you get with these Omnibus Classics versions from Delphi Classics Press. This post is NOT sponsored by or in any way affiliated with Delphi Press. There’s an Amazon associate relationship but that’s just 8.5% commission = 25 cents per sale. So that’s not the motivation (we wouldn’t be posting 30 to 40 free books every day if that were the motivation). This is just a great way to get a great set of Classics with lots of background and related items and a proper table of contents.

A Kindle Story

A Kindle Story

I was one of those who couldn’t wait to get the Kindle 3rd Generation when they were announced. The only problem was that no matter how much I panted over, coveted, would have given my eyeteeth for, traded the hubster for wanted this piece of electronics  – I just didn’t have the money. *insert heavy sigh*

So, I joined one of those search and win sites. I feverishly searched, I completed so many special offers I was afraid Gmail would choke on spam and die, and I watched advertising videos to the point I swore off television for a month. All that just to earn enough “points” to redeem them into Amazon Gift Cards  to purchase my first Kindle, a warranty and the sexy, chocolate brown, lighted cover (ah the cover – now that‘s a story for another day).

The day came when I finally hit my goal. It had taken 4 months and I was ready. Off to Amazon I headed with my amassed gift cards – bouncing in my chair with excitement. It was with great reverence when I arrived at the Kindle 3 page. I re-read everything, and even watched the video again. A breath of contentment could be heard throughout my house as I clicked the button Place Your Order.

It’s been a love affair ever since, minus the spats and hugging and kissing… alright, alright!
I’ll admit to maybe a couple of hugs and kisses.
Then 14 months later…bam!

The Kindle Fire arrives on the market.

My family laughed at me as they asked if I’m going to buy one or did I have enough points saved up again? I haughtily told them all that I would wait until Amazon came out with a Kindle Fire 2 – when all the bugs have been worked out. Ha! That shut them up! It made me look all techno-geek too..bonus!

What they didn’t know was just how badly I really, really wanted a Kindle Fire. Like a lonely man peeking at bawdy sites in the middle of the night, I found myself surfing to the Kindle Fire page. Sometimes I had no idea how I ended up there at all – and I still don’t remember bookmarking that page. I’ll swear to it in a court of law.

My 5-year-old grandson Jonnie – a dead ringer for Andy Dorset in The Ransom of Red Chief by O’Henry – had discovered the joys of playing Angry Birds on his mommy’s iPhone. A couple of months ago Jonnie stayed the weekend with us. It’s always an adventure with Jonnie, who just loves ropes, rocks and tape – especially when used on Nana and Grampa. Jonnie’s parents showed up just in the nick of time to  save us pick-up their son. My daughter tells me she bought a Kindle Fire. Apparently my reaction was outrageously excited because she nearly fell down laughing. My daughter regained her composure, still giggling sporadically. Then she drops the other bomb – she bought this wonderfully sleek, gorgeous, expensive Kindle Fire for… at this point my selective hearing decided to rear it’s ugly head or is it ear?

This is what I heard: “Mommy dearest, this Kindle Fire is for you! For being the best mom anyone could ever have, for putting up with all my crap; like staying out all night and worrying you sick on one too many occasions, for all the dishes I threw out the kitchen window when I didn’t want to wash them, and for hiding the bag of nasty diapers in your kitchen last week because I didn’t want the smelly things in my car…”

What she actually said was: “Mom, I just bought this Kindle Fire for (wait for it)
… JONNIE!”

Yep, my daughter had just gone out and dropped 200 bucks on a Kindle Fire for the 5-year-old…. just so he could play Angry Birds and leave her iPhone alone.

And shhh….truth be told, I currently have enough points saved up for $150 in Amazon gift cards. I only need another $49. I can’t wait!

Gotta run now, I have to go watch about 6,300 more advertising videos to fill the rest of my Kindle Fire fund.
