Let’s take a stab at iPad Mini, Kindle Fire 2, Nook Tablet 2 release date estimates.
The three graphs below represent the probable release dates of three of the iPad Mini, Kindle Fire 2 & Nook Tablet 2.
- On the X-axis, we have the months (Aug 2012 to Jan 2013).
- On the Y-axis is the likelihood of release on a scale of 0 to 100. 0% = No chance at all. 100% = Guaranteed Release.
- If the entry for October 2012 says 80, then it means that we think there’s an 80% chance of release during October 2012.
Please Note: Amazon, B&N, Apple have not made any official announcements about Kindle Fire 2, Nook Tablet 2, iPad Mini release dates. There are, however, rumors swirling about the launch of certain new models and about possible release dates. We’ve used such rumors and added our own guesstimates and come up with these graphs. The leaks sometimes are via sources who have knowledge about the inside happenings in these companies. Sometimes information is passed on from the overseas manufacturers/sources.
Kindle Fire 2 Release Date Estimate – August or September 2012
As you can see from the graph, the Kindle Fire 2 is expected to be launched first, most probably during the month of August. The probable date was earlier rumored to be August 7, but we did not see any announcement from Amazon on that day.
Did the successful launch of Google Nexus 7 influence the postponement of the Kindle Fire 2 launch? We can’t be sure.
Let’s hope that Amazon will bring a worthy competitor to Nexus 7 and will surprise us once again.
There is a high probability that the new Kindle Fire 2 models (four of them are expected) will be launched by the end of August. There is also the possibility that Kindle Fire 2 is announced in late August/early September and the actual release date is in October or November. We think Kindle Fire 2 Release Date will definitely be before end of November 2012. Kindle Fire is quite a bit behind Google Nexus 7 and also a bit behind the 16 GB Nook Tablet. Amazon needs Kindle Fire 2. Do the recent changes to Amazon Cloud Player indicate that a new tablet is just around the corner? Well, something is brewing for sure.
iPad Mini Release Date – September or October 2012
The iPad mini is likely to be launched in September 2012. There is an Apple event on September 12th, 2012 and there are lots of rumors that iPad Mini and iPhone 5 will be unveiled together. iPad Mini might also be launched on September 21 (through a separate launch event).
If not in September then there’s a very high chance that iPad Mini is launched in October or November. 7″ Tablets like Nook Tablet, Google Nexus 7, and Kindle Fire 2 are gaining market share and Apple needs a 7″ (or a 7.85″) Tablet soon.
Some people feel that this model may never be launched as Apple doesn’t compete in a price-conscious market (which is what the 7″ tablet market has become) and Steve Jobs had earlier mentioned that 7″ is too small for iPad applications (along with hyperbole about using sandpaper to whittle down users’ fingers so they fit 7″ Tablets). There is a very real danger that iPad Mini cannibalizes the iPad and Apple has to make a hard decision (one it probably already has).
Will Apple release the iPad Mini (at competitive rates) and capture the 7″ tablet market? Will the company take a different direction from what it is used to, and what it has been successful with? We’ll have to wait and see. The iPad mini might be the most un-Apple like device ever sold (in terms of what market segment it targets).
Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet 2
B&N’s Nook Tablet is on an approximate 1 year refresh cycle. Nook Color and Nook Tablet were released in October/November of 2011 and 2012 respectively. It’s very likely that Nook Tablet 2 will also ship in October or November.
B&N Nook Color was the first tablet to break into the sub-$200 market segment and B&N Nook Tablet is one of the few tablets that has an expandable memory slot. With Microsoft recently investing in Barnes & Noble, some people feel that the new Barnes & Noble Tablet 2 will have a Windows 8 Operating System. Of course, its just a rumor and it’s far likelier that Nook Tablet 2 will continue with the existing heavily skinned Android OS that Nook Color and Nook Tablet use.
Will B&N release Nook Tablet 2 with a skinned version of Android Jelly Bean and surprise the tablet world? It’s quite possible. Rumors indicate that we can expect the B&N Nook Tablet 2 relatively soon – However, our money is on October 2012.
